Spring is the best time of the year to do a cleanse. Have you ever done one? It can be such a powerful way to remove toxin buildup from the body and regenerate the body. This Spring detox smoothie is made with coconut water, fruits, ginger, lemon and a lot of greens and herbs. If you are on a serious cleanse though, like a fast, and you want smoothies to start or finish the cleanse, you will want to omit the banana. If not, the banana is fine but make sure it’s really ripe (it needs to have brown spots on it).
I used raw coconut water as it’s very hydrating and alkaline. I used kale and spinach, which are both alkaline forming and detoxifying. I used parsley and cilantro, which are high in chlorophyll and support the body’s detoxification as well. Cilantro is really amazing when you detox because it helps to remove heavy metals, like mercury, from the body. I also added fresh lemon juice which is very alkaline and detoxifying, as well as ginger which is also very powerful to flush toxins out of the body. A teaspoon of flax seed oil could be added for essential fatty acids but it’s not necessary.
This green smoothie is really green, yes, but it still taste amazing. Try it and let me know what you think. It’s raw and vegan.
- 1 cup coconut water, ideally raw/unpasteurized
- 1 small frozen ripe banana
- 1 organic apple, cored
- 4-5 leaves kale, stemmed and chopped
- 2 cups spinach
- Small handful of cilantro
- Small handful of parsley
- Sliced of ginger
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tsp flax seed oil, opt
- Add coconut water to a blender. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately.
