Beet Strawberry Smoothie - Conscious Cooking

Beet Strawberry Smoothie

This purifying and energizing smoothie is made out of almond milk, strawberries, beets, goji berries, honey, maca and cinnamon. Maca is optional but if you have this superfood at home, make sure to add a little bit. I find that it really adds a nice touch.

Beets

I love beets. Not only they are tasty but they have so many health benefits. They support the body’s detoxification, help to lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation. Beets also purify the blood and the liver and have anti-cancer properties. They are naturally sweet, warm, grounding and nutritious. Plus, they add a beautiful dark red color to the smoothie. You don’t even have to peel the beets; you just want to make sure they are really clean and that the top is cut off – roots are good to consume, don’t discard them. I used half a beet but feel free to use the entire beet (small) if you prefer. If you are new to beet and beet smoothies, start with half a beet.

Berries

Strawberries and goji berries, on the other hand, are packed with fiber and antioxidants. Goji berries are not only nutritious but also support cardiovascular and skin health and enhance immunity. Maca boosts energy and libido and helps to balance mood and hormones. If you don’t have strawberries or if you can’t eat them, simply use raspberries. It’s just as delicious and you will still benefit from its vitamin C and antioxidant content.

I love superfoods and enjoy adding them to my smoothies for extra boosts. You can find them at your health food stores, although most grocery stores carry them nowadays, and online. I find them in my local grocery stores here in Canada.

This gorgeous beet strawberry smoothie makes a refreshing afternoon snack during summer or late summer.
