Charcoal Lemonade - Conscious Cooking

Charcoal Lemonade

This charcoal lemonade is not your traditional yellow or pink looking lemonade but is more a black looking lemonade. If you have friends over or want to make people talk, it’s definitely a good drink to serve. Truth is that they should enjoy it. It really does taste good. The charcoal in it only affects the color of the lemonade. The texture changes slightly so you may notice on your tongue a little coat but it’s really nothing.

This special drink was consumed daily during my cleanse. I was drinking half of it as a part of a meal. The recipe itself serves more like 4 people. It’s not a lemonade you want to drink all summer but a good drink to have occasionally, if you are sick or if you are doing a cleanse, of course. It’s very detoxifying.

Charcoal

Activated charcoal is not the same substance as that found in charcoal bricks or burnt pieces of food. It comes from heating carbon-rich materials, such as wood, peat, coconut shells, or sawdust, to very high temperatures.

Activated charcoal is known to remove toxins from the body, improve digestion, promote clear skin and increase energy levels.  Research has shown that it can help to remove harmful bacterial from our digestive systems while keeping the good bacteria.

When consuming charcoal, you need to drink a lot of water to counteract the detoxifying effects. Also, people taking medications should talk with a doctor before taking activated charcoal internally as these may interfere with absorption of medication.

Authorities have only approved activated charcoal for the emergency treatment of overdoses or poisonings. To date, there have been no adverse reactions noted with activated charcoal in any of its various forms.

While you can ingest it, you can also use it to make beauty products like face masks and toothpaste.

I got mine from Organika. You can also purchase online from amazon or different health websites like well.ca/

If you want a more normal lemonade recipe, just follow the recipe below but skip the charcoal. It tastes the same. It’s really good. My preschooler, teenager and husband all loved it. In fact, my little one didn’t want to give the glass back or share.

This drink is more meant to help the body detox and can be consumed regularly but you don’t want to over do it.

Let me know what you think of it if you make it. Enjoy! xx
