Chinese Chicken & Broccoli

I made this Chinese chicken dish tonight and it was a hit! Highly recommend making it. It’s quick and easy to make, and perfect for a weeknight meal. No marinade needed. And as crazy as it sounds, there is no refined Chinese ingredients in the dish either. Only gluten-free tamari and local honey. I did serve with a little organic sriracha for me as I like a little spicy but the dish isn’t spicy. Children will enjoy this healthy Chinese-style meal.

I used organic, local chicken thighs. Chicken thighs are more flavourful and contain more minerals. I served the chicken and broccoli over basmati brown rice. It was delicious!

It’s a great meal for fall and winter, and makes great leftovers, if any.

Meal is gluten- and dairy-free.


Chinese Chicken & Broccoli

  • 4 tbsp sesame oil divided
  • 1 large head broccoli cut into florets
  • 6 chicken thighs chopped
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 large cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup tamari gluten-free
  • 1/3 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1/3 cup local honey

To serve

  • cooked basmati brown rice
  • sliced green onions


  • In a large skillet, heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium-high heat. Add broccoli and saute until tender and cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Set aside.
  • Add 2 more tbsp of oil and add chicken. Season with ground black pepper.
  • Add garlic and ginger, and sauté until chicken is cooked through, about 10 minutes.
  • Add tamari and water. Then add honey and stir to dilute it.
  • Add broccoli back in and stir to combine.
  • Reduce heat to low and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Serve sauté over basmati brown rice. Garnish with green onions if desired.
