I just finished my 9-day detox, in which I combined raw and vegan food, as well as smoothies, juices, blended soups and herbs. During two days of those 9 days, I did smoothies and soups. I would do smoothies for breakfast, lunch and snack, and a warm soup for dinner. In those two days, I created a few different smoothie recipe, including this green detox smoothie.
When I do detox smoothies, I like to add fresh herbs in them. Why? Not necessarily because of the taste but more because of their health benefits. Herbs, like cilantro, helps to chelate heavy metals from the body. We all have heavy metals in our body in todays world so a good, natural way to help detox your body from them is to incorporate fresh cilantro in your diet. This smoothie contains cilantro, as well as parsley.
Parsley doesn’t have the same chelating effects but is rich in chlorophyl, which is the blood of the plants (rich in oxygen) and nutrients. Combined with cilantro and spinach (although you could use kale), this smoothie has a beautiful green colour, exactly what you want when you do a detox.
Now, you may wonder how in the world this can taste good. Well, there is fruits added in there so it balances the taste of the herbs. I used fresh pineapple, which is rich in enzymes, and a banana, a frozen one, to make it a bit cooler and creamier. There is also cucumber added in there so it ends up being a very refreshing and tasty green smoothie.
This smoothie is raw and vegan. It’s great to have on a detox or at any time of the year, especially spring and summer. It can be enjoyed for breakfast or snack.
Green Detox Smoothie
- 2 cups pineapple
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 English cucumber
- ½ cup cilantro
- ½ cup parsley
- Pinch pink salt
- Water to achieve desired consistency (1/2 cup to 1 cup)
- Add water to a blender. Start with 1/2 cup.
- Add pineapple, banana, cucumber, cilantro, parsley and salt. Blend until smooth.
- Divide between two glasses and enjoy.
