This simple acai bowl recipe is easy and quick to make, and will provide nutrients to support overall health while being delicious. You simply blend a few ingredients together and add the toppings of your choice. Easy.
The tip though is to have a good blender. Since you won’t work with a lot of liquid, you need a high-speed blender. It will have the power to make the consistency super smooth which is what you are looking for.

What’s Acai and what are the health benefits?
Acai is a small berry that has a purple, reddish color. It comes from the acai palm tree, which is native to Central and South America. It’s known for its antioxidants and health and beauty properties. It’s actually known as a superfood.
The berry is said to have anti-cancer and anti-aging properties, promote weight loss and even ease symptoms of arthritis.
I have a post on my blog about foods that optimize brain function and acai is part of them in case it interest you to read.
You can find acai in its frozen, pulp form, which is what I use to make acai bowls, or in its powdered form, which is great to add into smoothies or yogurt.
I like the brand Sambazon which can be found in health food stores. You can also now find frozen acai pulp at Trader Joes.
What’s inside the bowl?
I use half a banana. The banana needs to be RIPE (not green!). A ripe banana has brown spots on it. I blend half the banana with 1/2 cup of nondairy milk and the frozen acai pulp that I run under running water for about 10 seconds before breaking it into small pieces and adding it to the blender. If you skip this part, you may end up with pieces of frozen acai in your blender. Have this ever happened to you? Me, yes, many times. So you really have to break it in small pieces if you want a smooth consistency. Once you add those three ingredients to the blender, you start blending slowly before increasing the speed and you blend until you get a nice, smooth consistency. Then you pour into a bowl and add your favorite toppings.
Toppings
You can really use whatever you like. I like to use the rest of the half to the banana to not waste it, and add other berries which fits nicely with the acai. I like to add almond butter too sometimes, or raw nuts. Superfoods like goji berries, bee pollen or raw cacao nibs are also excellent. Some people love adding granola to their smoothie bowl too. Add what you are in the mood for.
This recipe was meant to be a snack so I didn’t want the full package with granola and a lot of other ingredients – I kept it simple. It was just enough.
Let me know what you like to put in yours!:)
